Many of us seek to improve our quality of life. How about you? Do you feel that your work/life balance is skewed? Do you feel that you are rushed, underpaid, under-appreciated and lacking the time for leisure activities? Do you feel overwhelmed and unfulfilled at the same time?
Some people confuse quality of life with a standard of living (focusing on income); but quality of life goes much deeper than that. It encompasses your social life and relationships; health; wealth; recreation and spirituality.
And, quality of life is extremely subjective. It?s a matter of perception and appreciation? and what constitutes a great life for one person means an unhappy life for someone else. Be true to your own vision of quality of life!
Improving Your Quality of Life Starting Right Now
Identify what quality of life means to you. In the following areas of your life, define what you want:
- Health
- Wealth
- Relationships
- Career
- Recreation
- Spirituality
- Purpose (your passions, and your sense of why you?re here)
Quality of life equates to happiness. We all want health, wealth, great relationships, happiness, etc.. But achieving success in the first three does not guarantee happiness.
Ironically, many people say things like, ?I will be happy when?? ? and when they achieve that, they still aren?t happy!
So once you?ve identified what you want out of life, change your attitude.
Instead of thinking you ?will be happy when?? decide to be happy RIGHT NOW. A happy frame of mind turns things around very quickly. How? When you?re happy, you?
- attract happy, positive and uplifting people who are optimistic and speak words of abundance, health, fulfillment, purpose and joy.
- have more energy and enthusiasm. You look at big goals and projects in a spirit of adventure and fun, instead of looking at life like one big stupid chore.
- make better decisions. Decisions clouded by stress, fear, negativity and worry are not likely to produce the desired results.
- take better care of yourself and your belongings; part of this is a new-found appreciation and gratitude for what you already have.
- focus on what is important to you: your values
To become happier and improve the quality of your life immediately:
- Simplify. Get rid of all the excess stuff you have that has outlived its usefulness or that doesn?t bring you joy. Say no to social engagements you would rather not take part in. Say no to your boss when you are saddled with an overwhelming workload (your emphasis should be on quality, not quantity). Stop watching TV (except comedy and educational or inspirational TV ? the rest is toxic and a waste of LIFE). Make time for what is meaningful and important and release the rest.
- Start the day with positivity and end the day with gratitude. This simple meditation practice takes no more than 30 minutes a day (15 in the morning and 15 at night) and will completely transform the way you see the world.
- Do what you love, every day. Most of us are buried under so many obligations to others that we neglect the one person who is trying to ?do it all? ? ourselves. Is ?all? of it important, really? Do something that makes you feel good, every single day.
- Work on your goals, every day. Just a few minutes of doing something that moves you closer to your goal will make you feel that you aren?t stuck on the treadmill of life, and that you are doing something meaningful.
- Go easy on yourself. You can not do it all, and expect to have any energy or time left for yourself; and you can not do it all excellently. That?s why simplification is important. Don?t beat yourself up because you can?t do it all. You?re not meant to be a mindless robot getting task A, B, C?. Z done. Sure, you have responsibilities, but you can prioritize and weed out the time-sucking things that stress you out and make you unhappy.
- Deal with people with a fresh perspective. Often, we feel that our quality of life is worsened by unpleasant people we have to interact with daily. Instead of stressing about them, pretend they are actors. Pretend you?re both starring in a movie about your life, and hey, somebody has to play the bad guys, right? These actors are really, really good! Look how masterfully they say things and do things that make you upset or angry! This simple trick might give you a laugh. Even if it doesn?t, it takes away some of the emotional burden you choose to carry about what unpleasant people say and do.
Visualize your ideal life. Spend a few minutes several times a day to visualize your life as you would like it to play out. Do this consistently and with feeling and you will be surprised at how quickly just the right people and situations will present themselves for you to take action on. Do this from a perspective of, ?My life is so awesome right now, I have so much to be grateful for, and isn?t it cool that I get to achieve/have this, too??
- Take excellent care of yourself. Love your body and honor it with proper nutrition, rest and plenty of exercise. It?s hard to enjoy life if you?re not healthy.
- Smile: this is an attitude adjustment! Do it every time you feel yourself getting upset, angry or worried, smile (inwardly and outwardly). You?ll feel better instantly.
- Act only on good feelings, not on negative feelings. Listen to your intuition! For help in developing your intuition, use the exercises in the Silva Method to learn to identify what makes up an intuitive feeling, and how to process and use that information.
?I used to want to pack as much as I could into my life, but now I realize that it?s more about quality of life than quantity.? ? unknown
Improve your quality of life instantly: define what quality of life means to you; decide to be happy NOW; and create a life around what is important to you.
