A soldier who lost both of his legs while fighting in Afghanistan returned home to Sardis City Friday morning.
Army Cavalry Scout Corey Garmon was injured when an IED detonated while he was patrolling in Afghanistan in July. The injury cost Garmon both his legs.
The 24-year-old has been recovering at Walter Reed Medical Center in Maryland, but now he is home.
Garmon arrived at Huntsville International Airport at 10 a.m. He then made his way?to?Sardis City for a homecoming event at the Sardis Senior Citizens Center.
Law enforcement and the Patriot Guard gave Corey escorts through Guntersville, Albertville, and Boaz.
Garmon is a graduate of Sardis High School.
The Albertville Chamber of Commerce prepared for?a big welcome home. Residents and business owners?lined up along Hwy 431 to cheer for the wounded warrior.
Guntersville First Baptist Church also planned for a smooth homecoming. The church built a ramp at Garmon's family's home to make sure it is wheelchair-friendly.
