Security by Black, a Tulsa company, donated and installed a security system at the church Friday morning after reading about the church's rash of break-ins in the Tulsa World.
"We're ecstatic," said the Rev. Darold Bruton, pastor of the church at 4138 N. Delaware Ave., which is in a high-crime, high-poverty area.
"With the alarm system in, we now have peace in our hearts that we can begin to replace what has been stolen," he said.
Bruton said that from 2009 through 2011, everything of value was taken from the church, including air-conditioning units.
"There was nothing left," he said. "In the end, they were taking toilet paper and paper towels."
The break-ins slowed in 2012, Bruton said, a year in which he carried a sound system back and forth to his home every week instead of leaving it in the church.
Scott Davis, CEO of Security by Black, said he read about the church's plight in the Tulsa World.
"We reached out to the church to see what we could do to help," he said.
On Friday, the business installed a burglar alarm system at the church, normally a $1,500 job.
The $40 monthly monitoring fee will be waived indefinitely, Davis said.
"This is the first of what we hope will be many outreaches to the community," he said.
Davis said he got into the security business after being a victim of thieves himself.
"You feel so violated. It sticks with you," he said.
"I wanted to do something for a living that would give people some peace of mind."
