When Mariano Rivera injured himself while shagging flyballs this season, there was a threat that New York would devolve into ball of riotous nervous energy until Rivera said that he didn?t want to go out that way.
Well, he may be reconsidering:
?Now, with his 43rd birthday next month and as he?s worked very hard during his rehab to return, Rivera has the familiar tug that he has carried for many years of possibly wanting to stay home with his family and call it a career. Rivera has yet to inform the Yankees of his final intentions, according to sources.?
Until we hear more, the only rational thing to do is assume that he?ll be back. But now there?s that little needling worry in the back of your head, the one that says ?is the greatest closer in the history of the sport, the guy who made a 20 year career out of a single pitch, going to end on a batting practice foible???
And how can anyone sleep with that on their brain??
